QUIC at the University of Surrey and Royal Holloway, University of London
Principal Investigator: Professor Nigel Fielding
QUIC (Qualitative innovations in CAQDAS) is concerned with the integration and analysis of multiple data sources using CAQDAS software and the dissemination of such techniques through a training and capacity building programme.
We explore qualitative software support for
- Integrating qualitative and quantitative data in mixed methods research;
- The analysis of Access Grid multi-stream visual data;
- The integration of geo-referenced data within qualitative analysis.
QUIC explores the three new areas by applying them to the field of environmental risk. We test the first two ones in mini-research projects concerning social factors in response to natural environmental risk arising from climate change, and the third one in social environmental risk arising from crime/disorder.
QUIC derives exemplars, teaching datasets, and self-learning materials from each mini-research project and transfers these to its Training and Capacity Building programme.
QUIC is a collaboration between the University of Surrey and Royal Holloway, University of London
Pilot Project on Online Pedagogy : Using the Access Grid to deliver CAQDAS Training
The aim of this pilot research project is to evaluate Access Grid (AG) technology as a medium for delivering teaching sessions to learners at remote sites. We are looking for participants to join these sessions. Participants will receive an incentive payment as well as the value of the session’s contents. Find out more....
CAQDAS and the AGN
There will be an experimental CAQDAS training event on the 24th March 11.00 - 13.00 via the University of Surrey, Department of Sociology's Access Grid Node (41 AD 03). The CAQDAS Networking Project is funded by the ESRC to provide information, advice and training in the use of software designed to facilitate the analysis of qualitative data. They run scheduled face-to-face workshops in a number of different packages, including Atlas.tl, HyperRESEARCH, MAXqda, NVivo, QDA Miner and Qualrus. Find out more about CAQDAS...
Access Grid Seminar Series
The NCeSS are running an E-Social Science Access Grid Seminar Series via the eight social science Access Grid Nodes funded by themselves and the ESRC. Our Access Grid Node is one of these. The seminar series can be accessed locally via our Access Grid Node. If you wish to attend please contact us.
New Technologies, New Applications: Use of the Access Grid Node for Social Research
The Department of Sociology is engaged in research funded by NCeSS’s Small Grant Scheme. The innovative research aims to explore Access Grid Nodes as a data collection tool for social research.
First Department of Sociology with an Access Grid Node
The Department of Sociology was the first with its own Access Grid Node.
